Shropshire Young Athletes Cross Country League

16 Oct 2023
Our young athletes attended the Telford fixture of the young athletes league on 15th October and once again they were amazing. The weather was kind today, but the course was very wet and very sticky underfoot. We managed to get 1195 points which put us over 400 points clear of our closest rivals Wrekin Harriers.
First up were the U11 girls and we had the first four home with seven of our girls in the top ten. Our U11 girls team are very strong and would give any U11 girls team in the midlands a good battle. The race was won by Roni Kohring, who has had an extra special weekend after also running yesterday and beating last years national cross country champion in the Stafford league.
Our U11 boys were up next and they all did fantastic. They had to compete against a very strong Wrekin team who have many really good strong runners in the age group. However, our boys stuck to their task and brought home some great points for the team race.
The U15 & 17 girls were next on the course and by this time the conditions underfoot were getting worse and worse in one part of the course. The U15 girls had three of the top five positions in a race that was won well by Chloe Stuart. Our two U17 girls stuck to their task and once again brought home great points.
Our U13 boys lost lots of runners leading up to the event with illness and injury but still managed to get three home in the first five in a race won by Oscar Adams.
The U15 & U17 boys were up toward the end of the day and with both teams had athletes coming in the top five positions.
Our final runners were in the U13 girls race. Once again they really excelled in a very hard run race. We had three of the top four positions and it’s an age group we are really doing well at right now.
Thank you to all the parents for bringing their kids to the event and thank you to Telford AC for putting on a very fun event.
We as a cross country team are very excited about what our young athletes can go on to achieve before the season is finished. We can’t wait for the next event!
