Trail Running

Don’t fancy Fell Running but want to try something off-road? As a member of Shrewsbury AC there are opportunities to compete in Trail races with Club members. If you are a member of another club it may be possible to compete for Shrewsbury AC. Use the enquiry form to get more information.

Why compete?

  • Competition is where you are able to put all your training into practice, pitting yourself against other athletes and aiming to set a personal best mark.
  • In Championship competitions your Club needs as many athletes as possible taking part to get the best result for the team
  • You will also enjoy the camaraderie of your teammates, and if old enough, to enjoy a post run discussion over a pint and a chip butty.

For information about Trail races have a look at the Trail running Association website http://www.tra-uk.org/ Shrewsbury AC athletes are competing in this type of event more frequently. A current favourite is the Trail Marathon Wales and Trail Half Marathon http://www.trailmarathonwales.com/ . If you fancy a visit to the Lake District it’s worth checking here  http://www.lakelandtrails.org/index.php – there are Trail Races from 10k to marathon distance.

Shrewsbury AC promote three off-road races:

Eastridge Trail Half – a 13.1 mile course in the Snailbeach/Stiperstones area, its companion race the Eastridge Trail Half Relay Challenge and Mad Jack’s 5 – a race (approximately 5 miles) in the grounds at Attingham Park, Atcham. For more information on the races go to the Our Races pages.

 Want to compete?

While you don’t have to be a member of a club to compete in most Trail races being a member means you can share travel to races, share your race experience with other Club members – including gaining ‘bragging rights’ for good performances and you get the cameraderie of your teammates. Go to the Join Us page to find out how to join Shrewsbury AC. You will also get a discount on race entry fees of at least £2 per race.
