Volunteering with Shrewsbury Athletic Club

Shrewsbury AC is run entirely by volunteers. Coaches, Team Managers, Officials, Club officers and Committee members, and the people who put on races are all volunteers. Keeping the Club going takes a lot of time and effort and most volunteers carry out more than one role. While we all give our time willingly it’s always good to have extra help.

The Club is looking to recruit volunteers for the following roles:

Coaching

Possibly one of the most rewarding roles within the club. This is your chance to develop the athletes of the future and instil in them a love of a great sport. To see athletes of all ages and ability learn a new skill is truly rewarding. You can decide the level of your involvement and the level of qualification you want to attain. Click here for information about the different coaching qualifications (to be a coach with Shrewsbury AC you will need to have an appropriate coaching qualification). If you are interested in coaching with Shrewsbury AC use the form on the right of this page to tell us. The club also welcomes interest from qualified coaches. For details of those who coach at Shrewsbury AC use this link. For details of when and where training takes place go to the Training and Venues page.

Officials

These are the people who make athletics events work. Being an official requires less time commitment than being a coach. You would be helping at disciplines like the long jump, shot, hammer, javelin etc. Some roles require no qualifications – you would operate under the supervision of a qualified official, other roles require a qualification. Click here for information about the official’s qualifications. If you are interested in becoming an official with Shrewsbury AC use the form on the right of this page to tell us. The club also welcomes interest from qualified officials.

Team Manager’s

The Club always needs more Team Manager’s. As a Team Manager you would select the team for the event, contact the athletes, and attend the event to make sure the athletes compete in their events. If you are interested in becoming a Team manager use the form on the right of this page to tell us.

Club Officers and Committee members

Is your child a member of the Club? Are you a member of the Club? Do you have ideas about things that could help to improve the Club? Do you have a few hours every few months that you could give to help with the running of the Club? If so the Club would like to hear from you. The Club always welcomes offers of help. If you would like to volunteer to help, use the form on the right of this page to tell us.

Other volunteering roles

Throughout the year there are always tasks that need to be done. These include helping at the races the Club puts on (mainly marshalling), providing refreshments at track and field meetings. If you are able to offer some time on an ad hoc basis to help the Club with these tasks please use the form on the right of this page to tell us.
