Iris Downes breaks 38-year old record in 800m Under 17, Kati Hulme the 25-year-old county record in 400m hurdles Under 20 and the 4x100m under 17 Women team the record that stood for 19 years.

Kati Hulme who also won gold in long jump led a stunning day for Shrewsbury AC at the country championships. 

Coach Arnie Wray says “It is well deserved for Kati. Kati is a great athlete and person who has been with Shrewsbury AC since primary school. Breaking this record in a year of restrictions and complexity, along with Kati going to University makes the achievement even more remarkable”

In total there was an impressive tally of 20 county gold medals for Shrewsbury AC and 44 medals in total.

Amongst many highlights and personal bests, some stand-out stats
-  The Girls & Womens team winning almost 50% of all titles for Shrewsbury AC (10 gold medals) 
- Chloe Speake winning 3 gold in 80m hurdles, 100m and 4x100m
- 6 athletes making the gold double with 2 county gold medals: Bridget Williams, George Wood, Raphael Carsen, Kati Hulme, Grace Kinsey and Madeleine Aiston
- The youngest athlete representing Shrewsbury AC was Ellie Robinson, aged 9, who competed in 3 events (60m, 600m and long jump) and brought home 2 medals

Despite all the challenges of 2021, the county championships were again organised with excellence by Richard Eastman and his team. Richard has organised this major event for the last 24 years and has now decided to pass the baton to a new team. Many grateful athletes and Shrewsbury AC thank Richard for great performances and memories at the County championships under his leadership.
