Shrewsbury Athletic Club runners turned out in force for the Telford 10K Race on Sunday, a highly regarded event on the National calendar attracting runners from all over the UK and ranked as the fastest 10K in the UK. The race lived up to its reputation with six Club runners clocking personal best times, Matt Hall in 95th place, Club newcomer Matt Costello 110th in his first race in Club colours, Jim Hickinbottom 121st, Charlie Rogers 151st, Jake Milovsorov 194th and Simon Cole 410th.

There was an age category victory for Graham Jones, 1st Veteran Over 60.

95 Matt Hall 31/50(PB), 110 Matt Costello 32/07(PB), 121 Jim Hickinbottom 32/25(PB), 151 Charlie Rogers 33/09(PB), 193 Richard Mckenna 34/09, 194 Jake Milovsorov 34/12(PB), 240 Pete Middleton 35/40, 322 Antonio Gasparinho 37/30, 392 Graham Jones 39/11(1st Veteran Over 60), 405 Pete Hughes 39/15, 410 Simon Cole 39/26(PB), 439 Dan Elliot 40/06(Pacer), 552 Pete Savill 43/17, 615 Andy Lewis 45/10, 721 Colin Perry 44/50(Pacer), 1097 Grace Hough 77/49.

 

On the international scene, two Club runners competed in the Valencia Marathon, with Jon Bowie producing a personal best time of 2/28/09 in 164th place and 14th in the Veteran Over 40 category and Paul Jones 323rd in 2/36/50 and 10th in the Veteran Over 45 category, in a field of over 21,000 runners.

 

In other road races, Colin Perry finished 31st and 2nd Veteran Over 40 in the Nottingham Christmas Half Marathon in 1/27/05, Richard Jones was 44th and 1st Veteran over 55 in the Aberystwyth 10K in 40/34 and there were personal best times in the Wilmslow Festive 10K for Jamie Lambie, 19th in 32/18 and Pete Hughes 205th in 38/45. Matt Wooden finished 15th in the Ravenstonedale 10K in Cumbria in 40/36.

 

Gill Evans was the sole Club competitor in the second and third fixtures of the Shropshire Winter Hills Series, finishing 96th and 3rd Lady Veteran Over 50 in the Wrekin Wrecker race in 1/36/51 and 170th and 2nd Lady Veteran Over 55 in the Cardington Cracker in 2/06/02.
