Shrewsbury Athletic Club runners have competed in the first two fixtures of the Shropshire Hills Summer Fell Race Series, the Caradoc Classic and Wrekin Streak races. Graham Jones was first home for the Club at Caradoc in 21^st place and 1^st Veteran Over 60 in 28/12, with Steve Turk 32^nd and 3^rd Veteran Over 45 in 29/24, Gill Evans 89^th and 1^st Lady Veteran Over 55 in 36/05 and Emily McBride 127th in 50/06. Gill Evans was 1^st Lady Veteran Over 55 and sole competitor for the Club at the Wrekin Streak in 96^th place in 29/03. After two races, Gill is 1^st Lady Veteran Over 55 in the Series. Gill is continuing to demonstrate her domination of this category, having won the Winter 2016/17 Series and three Series prior to that. In the Winter 2016/17 Series, Scott Hall was overall 3^rd Male and Zoe Barber overall 3^rd Female.

The Club was well represented at the Market Drayton 10K, with Sara Willhoit leading the squad home in 39^th place in 38/23 in a field of almost 2200 runners, 3^rd in the Womens' race and a personal best time by almost two minutes. Alan Dean was next in 64^th place in 39/46 and Chris Wakeman 110^th and 3^rd Veteran Over 55 in 41/46. Next came Pete Savill 112^th and 3^rd Veteran Over 60 in 41/52, with Jo Dean 219^th in 44/58 and Duncan Rose 239^th and 4^th Veteran Over 60 in 45/21.

There was a Club one-two at the Sheinton Steeplechase, with Paul Jones 1^st in 19/16 and Gabe Morris 2^nd in 19/46. There were Category successes for Haydn Jones 1^st Veteran Over 55 in 26^th place in 24/49, Gill Evans 1^st Lady Veteran Over 55 in 61^st place in 29/48, Derek Owen 2^nd Veteran Over 65 in 62^nd place in 31/01 and Gordon Trevor 5^th Veteran Over 65 in 81^st place in 50/30.

To wrap up a busy period on and off road, Matt Hall finished 2^nd in the tough Barlaston Ups and Downs Spring Treble Race in 29/02, narrowly missing out in a sprint finish to the overall Series winner. Dan Smith finished 4^th in the Newtown 10K race in 37/59, with Richard Jones 8^th and 1^st Veteran Over 50 in 40/05, after having finished 9^th and 2^nd Veteran Over 50 in 63/35 in the North Wales 10 Mile Championships at Wrexham. Matt Guilder was 114^th in the Mid Cheshire 5K race in 17/30.
