Race Report: Midlands Cross Country Championships at Mallory Park - 25th January
Today, 25th January, Shrewsbury AC athletes braved the challenging conditions at Mallory Park, Leicestershire, to compete in the Midlands Cross Country Championships. With temperatures barely above freezing and the course slick with mud, the athletes faced a true test of endurance and determination. Our athletes did amazing against some of the top cross-country talent from across the Midlands.
Arya CJ was first up in the U13 girls race. Arya did remarkably well for a lower year and came across the line in 36th place.
Oscar A, Logan W and Charlie S were next up in the U13 boys race. Oscar secured our only medal of the event, coming home in 3rd, only behind two of the top U13 athletes in the UK. Logan continued his fine form coming home in 24th with Charlie right behind him in 26th.
In the U15 girls race, Chloe S came a very good 4th after a sprint finish, only a few seconds away from a medal. Megan B was next home in 23rd and Emma-Jayne C in 26th.
In our penultimate race of the day and with the course more resembling a bog, Sam T, Josh M and Toby A ran in the U17 boys race. All the boys really stuck to it in really tough conditions and came home 51st, 52nd and 55th.
Dan N was the sole competitor in the U20 boys/men’s race and came home 19th in a strong field.
We are incredibly proud of all our athletes for their outstanding performances at today’s event. Despite the tough conditions, each athlete showed incredible resilience and determination, giving their best against some of the region’s top competitors. We look forward to seeing even more success in future events.
