Shrewsbury Athletic Club had a strong turnout of runners for the Village Bakery Half Marathon at Wrexham. The eleven runners were spearheaded by the Club's most recent arrival, Paul Jones in 6th place. Already established as one of the County's top distance runners, he produced a personal best time of 1/11/16 in his first race in a Shrewsbury vest and was 1st in the Veteran Over 45 category. The Club had five finishers in the top 40, with Brett Edwards 10th, Pete Middleton 34th, Gabe Morris 36th and Michael Betts 38th. There were other category successes for Kevin Francis, 3rd Veteran Over 50, Connor Middleton 4th Under 21 and Pete Savill 3rd Veteran Over 60. Jacqueline Macey had an outstanding run in her first road major race of the year, finishing 3rd Lady Veteran Over 40 in a personal best time of 1/29/55, her first sub 1 hour 30 minute half marathon.

The fell running scene continued with the staging of the Shropshire Weekend, comprising the Titterstone Clee Race on the Saturday and the Long Mynd Valleys Race on the Sunday. Longstanding Club veteran, Gordon Trevor was the Club's sole competitor in the Titterstone race, finishing 34th in 46/31 and 3rd in the Veteran Over 65 category. In the Long Mynd race, Zoe Barber finished 70th overall and 3rd Senior Woman in 2/11/20, with Darren Mitchelmore 112th in 2/21/53 and Gill Evans 158th and 2nd Lady Veteran Over 55 in 2/41/25.
Among the 1800 runners competing in the Saucony English National Cross Country Championships at Wollerton Park, Nottingham on Saturday were Club veterans Graham Jones and Richard Jones, who overcame the muddy conditions to finish the course in 53/08 and 55/52 respectively. Congratulations to Graham Jones on being first Veteran Over 60.
