Shrewsbury Athletic Club’s impressive return to racing continued as a strong squad travelled to Kinglsey in Cheshire to contest the Mid Cheshire 5k. On a fast rural course, known for attracting a deep field of talented runners, a number of runners marked their return to racing by setting impressive new personal best times.
The club was led home by Matt Costello in 15:24, followed by Jake Milovsorov who bettered his PB by 10 seconds to run 15:48. Oliver Parry achieved the milestone of breaking the 16-minute barrier for the first time with a time of 15:58, closely followed by Rich Mckenna running a PB of 16:02 just 5 days after an impressive showing at the Cheshire Elite Half Marathon just 5 days prior. Connor Middleton ran a breakout 16:07, a huge 44 seconds quicker than his previous PB. He was followed by Luke Butler in 16:34, 1 second away from equalling his lifetime best, and Matt Wooden stepping up a grade to run 17:37.
These results demonstrate the commitment to training by the athletes during the winter lockdown, and will surely be bettered with a full programme of races over the summer.
