Shrewsbury Athletic Club's Richard Mckenna travelled to North Wales to compete in the Rhyl 10 Mile Race, a fast flat out and back course on the seafront and produced an outstanding performance, finishing 2nd in 56/59, a fast time and podium place in his first ever 10 mile race, at times against a strong head wind and in a field of quality runners, some of whom were competing for a Welsh Championship place.
Seven Club runners travelled to compete in the National Cross Country Championships on an undulating course within the grounds of Harewood House, Leeds, Rob Fox leading the side home in a race of over 2000 runners in 504th place in 44/57, with Carl Aveyard 602nd in 46/00, Luke Butler 785th in 47/32 and Steve Waters 922nd in 48/55. In the Womens' Race, Lauren Morley finished 276th in 36/38 and Grace Hough 1030th in 66/42. Jess Gunner finished 102nd in the Under 17 Womens' Race in 21/15.
There were podium places for Club athletes in the Oulton Park Raceontrack meeting, with Dan Elliott 3rd in the 10K Race in a personal best time of 36/09 and Club newcomers Shawn Hill and Karen Clark 14th in 40/08 and 48th in 48/00 respectively in their debut race for the Club. Another Club newcomer, Sue Siddi finished 3rd in the Womens' Half Marathon in 1/26/14 in her debut race for the Club. Charlie Rogers was in top form with another sub 17 clocking for a 5K race, finishing 1st in the Lets Go Round Again Nottingham Disco 5K Race in 16/54 and Matt Hall and Jim Hickinbottom competed in the Podium 5K Race in Barrowford, Lancashire finishing 28th in 15/42 and 52nd in 16/29 respectively in monsoon weather conditions.
On the fell running scene, the penultimate race in the Shropshire Hills Winter Series, the Cardingmill Canter, took place in Church Stretton, with Scott Hall producing his highest placing of the Series in 4th place in 45/46, with Stuart Proctor 28th in 51/53 and Gill Evans 90th and 1st Lady Veteran Over 55 in 68/03.
