Shrewsbury Athletic Club's Robert Fox has been flying the Club flag in the Far East, competing in the Great Wall of China Marathon where he finished 7th in a field of over 800 runners in 3/55/29 on a course entirely on the Great Wall, 120Km north east of Beijing and much tougher than traditional marathons with runners challenged by 5164 stone steps and many steep ascents and descents.
Closer to home, the Club's young athletes were out in force at the Shropshire County Track and Field Championships at Telford, with no fewer than 28 personal bests for the Boys and 37 personal bests for the Girls and Gold medals for the following:
Boys: U15 300m Ethan Stanway 41.2(PB), U13 75m Hurdles Reuben Green 14.2(PB), U17 High Jump Louis Schofield 1.75m(PB), U17 Long Jump Brad Davies-Pughe 6.29m, U15 Long Jump Ethan Stanway 4.73m(PB), Triple Jump Brad Davies-Pughe 13.08m(PB).
Girls: U15 100m Madeliene Aiston 13.2(PB), U13 100m Bridget Williams 14.5(PB), U20 200m Kati Hulme 28.0, U15 200m Laura Hulme 27.7, U15 200m h1 Madeleine Aiston 27.8, U15 200m h2 Laura Hulme 27.5, U13 200m Bridget Williams 30.3(PB), U15 300m Iris Downes 43.7(PB), U13 1500m Bethany Trow 4/46.9(PB), U15 75m Hurdles Chloe Speake 12.1(PB), SW 100m Hurdles Emily McBride 20.4(SB), U20 100m Hurdles Kati Hulme 16.1(PB), U20 400m Hurdles Kati Hulme 67.2(PB), SW High Jump Rebecca Walker 1.60m, U15 Long Jump Laura Hulme 5.09m(PB), U13 Long Jump Bridget Williams 3.81m.
The first fixture of the Midland Track and Field League Division 6 took place at Kettering, with podium places for the Men's team going to Gabe Morris 3rd in the 400m in a season's best time of 56.7 and 1st in the 800m in a season's best time of 2/05.8. Jim Hickinbottom was 2nd in the Javelin with a season's best throw of 37.01m. For the Women, Jess Foster was 4th in the 100m in a season's best time of 13.6, Kati Hulme was 1st in the 100m Hurdles in 16.8 and 1st in the 400m hurdles in 67.8. Rebecca Walker was 1st in the High Jump in 1.55m and Jess Foster was 1st in the Triple Jump in a season's best jump of 10.57m.
