Shrewsbury Athletic Club's Paul Jones became an international age category winner when he travelled to Spain to compete in the Seville Marathon on Sunday. Months of training and dedication paid off for the Shrewsbury star as he produced a double individual success, winning the Veteran Over 45 category and a personal best time of 2/33/15 in 70th place overall in a field of over 12,000 runners.
A strong contingent of Club runners competed in the Village Bakery Half Marathon in Wrexham on Sunday, producing a number of individual successes. There were personal best times for Ollie Parry 29th, Nick Bradley 56th, Stewart Farley 170th and Club newcomer Calvin Hignett 269th and Pete Savill finished 2nd in the Veteran Over 65 category. In the Womens' Race, Mel Price produced a personal best time in 18th place, with Lauren Morley 35th and Naomi Cook 81st.

On the fell running scene, the 4th and 5th races of the Shropshire Winter Hill Series took place with the staging of the Titterstone Clee and Long Mynd Valleys fell races. At Titterstone, Club newcomer Stuart Proctor finished in 9th place and 1st Veteran Over 50 in his first race for the Club in 24/06, with Bethany Pinches 5th in the Womens' race and 1st Junior Woman in 33/32. In the Long Mynd Valleys race, Monika Oparka was 10th Woman in 2/21/57 in her first fell race for the Club.
Away from the County, Chris Wakeman finished 7th and 1st Veteran Over 60 in the Cannock Chase 5 Mile Race in 37/16, with Grace Hough 153rd in 70/10, in the Alsager 5 Mile Race, Jim Hickinbottom finished 21st in 27/13, with Richard Jones 141st in 32/05 and in the Stourbridge Stagger 10 Mile Multi Terrain Race, Dan Elliot finished 8th in 67/08, with Andy Birch 21st in 69/17.
The Club's junior athletes produced some fine performances in the Midland Counties Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Brad Davies-Pughe 1st in the Under 17 Mens Triple Jump with 12.55m, Louis Schofield 2nd in the Under 17 Mens Long Jump with 6.30m, just 8cm outside his PB and Rebecca Walker 2nd in the Under 17 Womens High Jump with a season's best 1.55m. Jess Gunner finished 5th to qualify for the West Midlands Team in the London Mini Marathon in the Under 17 age group and Jess Proctor won the 60 m race at an indoor meeting in Manchester.
