Following their successful cross country season, a squad of 13 Shrewsbury Athletic Club runners from the Club's cross country teams travelled to the National Cross Country Championships at Donington Park, Leicestershire, with the team of Gabe Morris, Matt Hall, James Hickinbottom, Luke Butler, Carl Aveyard and club captain Graham Jones finishing 38th out of 123 teams, their highest placing in the Nationals for many years.
Most notable performance of the day went to club captain Graham Jones, who, just days after his 60th birthday, made the most of his first race in his new age category by storming to 1st place in the Veteran Over 60 category for the National event.

In the Womens' race, Sara Willhoit finished 174th in 37.23 and Joanne Dean 420th in 43.21, a successful conclusion to their first cross country season for the Club.
A contingent of eight Shrewsbury Athletic Club runners travelled to Wrexham to compete in the Village Bakery Half Marathon, with five achieving personal best times around the fast flat two lap course. First finisher for the Club was Neil O'Hanlon, 18th in a personal best time of 1.16.40, with Gabe Morris 29th in 1.17.54, beating his previous best by 13 minutes, then Luke Butler 32nd with a personal best time of 1.18.18 and James Hickinbottom 33rd in 1.18.25, beating his previous best by 5 minutes. Next came Kevin Francis in 60th place in 1.21.45, his fastest half marathon time for nine years and 3rd Veteran Over 50, Grant Lloyd 90th in a personal best time of 1.23.44 and Pete Butler 309th in 1.42.48 on his return from injury. Jacqueline Macey was 36th in the Womens' Race in 1.37.35, her second fastest half marathon time.
In the Rhyl 10 mile race, Carl Aveyard, finished 18th in 63.23 and 4th Veteran Over 35 and Richard Jones, 24th in 65.10 and 2nd Veteran Over 50, both impressive performances in the tough windy conditions.
