For the 2nd consecutive year, this year's Annual Christmas Club Handicap race was contested on an undulating 3.4 mile route around Radbrook, and resulted in possibly the closest ever finish witnessed at this prestigious event.
The event which is traditionally held as the last Club event before Christmas involves runners starting at different times with each runner given a handicap time that they have to start the race behind the slowest runner by, dependent on an estimated time that they should be quicker than the slowest runner by over the course distance. The theory is that if everybody runs to their handicap time they should finish together.
The handicap appeared to have been accurately calculated this year by Steve Waters, as an exciting finish along the long, straight Longden Road saw Gabe Morris win by a narrow margin with spectators thrilled to see 5 or 6 runners close together in the final stages of the run. Gabe, being the last starter with the greatest handicap just about managed to cross the line first despite a gallant effort by both Haydn Jones and Pete Savill who battled hard to the line having been in close contention throughout.
Thanks to everyone who took part or officiated in the race.
