Shrewsbury AC’s Junior middle distance runners capped a fine summer of results with a strong turnout at the recent County Championships, seeing a number of runners return to Shrewsbury as County Champions.

In the 3000m Joe Gilling won the Under 20 Mens race in a time of 9:44.1, while Jess Gunner finished second in the Under 20 Womens race with a time of 11:57. 2 SAC runners filled the podium in the Under 15 Boys 3000m, with Joe Leahy winning in 10:15.2 closely followed by Jake Hopkins in third with a time of 4:42.2.

In the 1500m, Joe Leahy and Jake Hopkins again finished first and third in the Under 15 Boys, Joe winning in 4:38.7 and Jake running a strong 4:42.2. In the Under 15 Girls 1500m Beth Trow finished in second in a time of 4:53.6 and Jess Turner was fourth in 6:36.5.

There was a strong turnout in the 800m races. Liam Rawlings was the winner of the Under 20 men, running 1:58.5. In the Under 17 Ladies race Iris Downes continued her strong summer by winning in a time of 2:12.28. Rosie Morries ran a strong 2:38.6 for fourth place, closely followed by Rosie Zlotowitz in fifth with 2:40.2. In the Under 17 Men Adam Edwards won in a personal best time of 2:08.21 and was joined on the podium by George Andrews, whose time of 2:19.5 saw him finish third. The Under 15 girls race saw Beth Trow finish first with 2:24.1 and Jessica Turner finish fifth in 3:10.2.

Congratulations to all competitors and their families for playing their part in a really successful summer for the club. Winter training Starts Monday 6th September ready for Cross Country.
