The nine men and four women who took the club colours onto the fells in 2017 put up some excellent performances, both overall and in their age categories. That no junior athletes took to the hills is perhaps a reflection of the shortage of races for them in Shropshire rather than a lack of ability.

Congratulations to Gill Evans for another great year on the hills. Gill takes the awards for both Best Woman overall and Best Veteran Woman – completing 14 races from the 18 race series, was best Veteran Woman in all 14 and Best Woman in 12. Zoe Barber, and Lauren Morley were Best Woman in one race each.
In the Best Man overall category, eight different club members made their mark. Gabe Morris was first club member home in four races to claim the honours for 2017. Scott Hall, Graham Jones and Steve Turk claimed the honours in two races each.
In the Best Veteran Male category, seven club members from the 35+ to 65+ age groups took to the fells. Having overcome his injury problems Steve Turk was first club member home in five races, and he takes the award for this category. Kev Francis, Darren Mitchelmore and Graham Jones were 1st home in two races each.
The other club members who took to the fells were Emily McBride, Gordon Trevor, Andrew Birch and Andy Lewis.
It would be good to see more club members taking part in this branch of our sport in 2018.
