There was huge success for our Junior section over the weekend as a number of our runners were selected to represent Shropshire at the prestigious Inter Counties XC.
Headlines will go to Liam Rawlings, who followed up his recent Silver medal at the National Indoors to win the U20 Men's race. Liam produced a powerful finish to come by the Devon athlete Johnny Livingstone and take the win. This result also saw Liam complete the victory in the Cross Challenge series. Liam continues to produce excellent results across the disciplines, and this is the latest in a spectacular winter.
The boys were also represented by Jude Lins, who finished 190th in the U17 Boys race, and the quartet of Joe Leahy, Jack Kinrade, Jake Hopkins and Adam Bentham, who finished the U15 Boys 77th, 92nd, 222nd and 238th respectively.
The Junior ladies and girls races saw a number of our runners pulling on the county colours. Jess Gunner finished a strong 72nd in the U20 Ladies while the U17 Ladies saw good runs from Iris Downes (33rd), Rosie Morris (188th) and Rosie Zlotowitz (244th). Beth Trow ran home to a good 41st in the U15 Girls and the U13 Girls were represented by Manon Closs (270th) and Olivia Hayman (199th).
Inter Counties XC is notoriously tough, attracting some of the best runners in the country and some star names of the future in the Junior races. To be selected is a great achievement, let alone some of the top finishes we’ve seen from our runners. Well done to everyone who ran and to their families and coaches.
