Shropshire Young Athletes League Cross Country Report 2017

Shropshire Young Athletes League Cross Country Report 2017

12 Dec 2017

This year Shrewsbury Athletes excelled in the Shropshire Cross Country League, we had 33 athletes representing the club.

At Lilleshall in September our U11 girls team finished in first place , U11 Boy in 3rd place, U13 girls 6th place with only two runners, U13 boys 4th place and U15 girls in 4th place. We had 7 athletes in the top 10 finishers.

The second meeting was held at Bridgnorth in October. The U11 girls finished as 3rd team, U11 boys 3rd team, U13 girls 4th team, U13 boys 3rd team, u15 girls 4th team and U15 boys 6th . We had 8 athletes finishing in the top ten.

At the third meeting at Much Wenlock the weather was atrocious but despite this our teams finished U11 Girls 2nd team, U11 boys 1st team, U13 Girls 1st Team, U13 boys 7th team and U15 Girls 3rd team, U15 boys 4th team. We had 11 athletes in the top ten.

The final league meeting was in December at Oswestry, we really needed a full on effort for the U11’s to maintain their team positioning and for the U13’s to run the best race strategy to date, the U13 Girls were currently lying in fourth place and needed a superb result to try and take 3 rd team place over all. Likewise, the U13 boys had missed a vital team member at Wenlock and were hoping to claw back a podium position . The U15 girls were hoping for a podium finish but really needed three runners in the top 15.

The results from Oswestry on the day were U11 Girls 2nd team, U11 boys 1st Team, U13 Girls 1st Team, U13 boys 6th team ( one injured) U15 Girls 6th team (two ran). We had 8 top ten athletes and all U11 athletes finished in the top 20. Leaving the overall team positions in the League as follows:

U11 Girls 2nd well done to Lucy Newall, Bethany Trow , Lillie Dean, Savannah Hughes, Jasmine Barratt, and Jess Turner .

U13 Girls finished 3rd overall well done to Iris Downes , Georgia Trow , Chloe Speake, Esme Haycocks, Amelie Owen, Rosie Zlotowitz and Bella Hunt.

It was a brave effort from our U13 boys team they didn’t have a full team for two meetings. Well done to Alfie Dean, Jack Margerison , Adam Edwards, Dion Thomas and Scott Reads.

U15 girls didn’t have full teams for two meetings but well done to Jess Gunner, Emily Pyle and Georgia Richardson.
