Shrewsbury Athletic Club's Emily McBride had a successful outing when she travelled to Yorkshire to compete in her first heptathlon. A key member of the Club's Midland Track and Field League team, her hard work during the recent season paid dividends, as she picked up a bronze medal in the Women's Heptathlon in the Yorkshire County Open Championships, with personal bests in the hurdles, javelin, high jump and 800m.


There were a number of individual successes for Club runners in the Ellesmere 10K Race, with Paul Jones 1st Veteran Over 45, Sara Willhoit 1st Woman, Alan Dean 5th Veteran Over 45, Jenna Middleton 3rd Lady Veteran Over 35 and Derek Owen 5th Veteran Over 65. There was a hatful of personal best times for Club runners in the Mid Cheshire 5K, with Carl Aveyard, Steve Waters, Connor Middleton and Lauren Morley all beating their previous best times and all lead home by Club Cross Country Captain Luke Butler.


Ellesmere 10K Results:

5 Paul Jones 33/36(1st Veteran Over 45), 25 Sara Willhoit 38/32(1st Woman, 1st Senior Woman), 35 Alan Dean 39/41(5th Veteran Over 45), 112 Jenna Middleton 46/09(3rd Lady Veteran Over 35, 13th Woman), 222 Derek Owen 49/53(5th Veteran Over 65), 630 Sheila Richards 69/21(9th Lady Veteran Over 60), 639 Anne Byrne 70/02(11th Lady Veteran Over 60).


Mid Cheshire 5K Results:

71 Luke Butler 16/54, 76 Carl Aveyard 16/57(PB), 79 Steve Waters 16/59(PB), 82 Connor Middleton 17/04(PB, 8th Male Under 23), 215 Lauren Morley 19/48(PB, 23rd Woman).


Pete Middleton’s preparations for the Berlin Marathon this Sunday received a further boost, with another victory, this time in the Lee Valley Velopark Half Marathon at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, which he completed in a time of 1/18/32. Two Club runners impressed in the Ellerdine Effort 5K Race in Telford, with Pete Hughes 18th in a personal best time of 18/36 and evergreen veteran Pete Savill 26th and 1st Veteran Over 60 in 19/24.


On the fell running scene, the final race in the Shropshire Summer Fell Race Series, the Ragleth Fell Race, took place at Church Stretton, with Gabe Morris 20th in 31/53, Steve Turk 27th in 33/43, 4th Veteran Over 45 on the night but finishing 1st for the Series and Gill Evans 64th in 41/53, 1st Lady Veteran Over 55 on the night and for the Series.
