Eleven junior members of Shrewsbury Athletic Club were selected to represent Shropshire in the Dave Sunderland Schools Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Lilleshall, with performance of the day going to Bethany Trow who finished 1st in the Year 7 Girls' Race. In the challenging muddy conditions the other performances were: Year 7 Boys 26th Adam Bentham, 65th Zach Mckenna, Year 7 Girls 79th Jessica Turner, Year 8/9 Boys, 8th Jack Kinrade, 12th Adam Edwards, 87th Freddie Allwood, Year 8/9 Girls, 19th Lucy Newall, 34th Jasmine Barrett, Intermediate Boys 38th Jude Lins, Intermediate Girls 16th Iris Downes.


Graham Jones represented Wales Over 60s in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country International at Aintree Racecourse, finishing 11th in his category and 3rd counter for the Welsh team. In other off road races, Tom Richards finished 3rd in the Bolton Abbey Trail 10K Race in 46/42, Simon Cole finished 7th in the Trail Betws Half Marathon and 2nd Veteran Over 50 in 2/03/29 and Paul Bowes finished 49th in the Roaches Fell Race in 2/43/07, a 15 mile course with 3700 feet of ascent.


Three Club runners competed in the Preston 10 Mile Race producing three personal best times, led by Jon Bowie 6th in 51/45, Jim Hickinbottom 13th in 54/03 and Luke Butler 36th in 58/06. Colin Perry finished 88th in the Conwy Half Marathon in 1/28/11 and followed that with 10th place in the Weston Park Trail 10K in 41/24. There were personal bests for two Club runners in the Wilmslow Festive 10K, Jamie Lambie finished 19th in 32/18, a personal best by a minute and 25 seconds and Pete Hughes ran a personal best time of 38/45 finishing 203rd.


Shrewsbury Athletic Club runners have competed in the North Staffs Cross Country League in three fixtures at Winsford, Stafford Common and Park Hall. At Winsford, the Mens' Team finished 5th, led home in the challenging conditions of mud and rain by Matt Hall in 2nd place with Jim Hickinbottom 16th, Steve Waters 47th, Graham Jones 68th, Kevin Francis 81st and Adam Burgoyne 113rd and team scorer in his debut cross country race for the Club. There were age category successes for Matt Hall 1st Veteran Over 35, Graham Jones 1st Veteran Over 60, Pete Savill 1st Veteran Over 65 and Jim Hickinbottom 3rd Veteran Over 35. In the Womens' Race, Naomi Cook finished 36th and Grace Hough 224th and 2nd Lady Veteran Over 70. At Stafford Common, despite similar challenging conditions of mud and rain, Jim Hickinbottom produced his highest placing in the League to date, leading the side home in 7th place, with Steve Waters 37th and Luke Peden 113th. Grace Hough finished 192nd and 3rd Lady Veteran Over 70 in the Womens' Race and Jessica Turner finished 20th in the Under 13 Girls' Race. At Park Hall, Grace Hough finished 167th and 2nd Lady veteran Over 70 in the Womens' Race.
