Lockdown training

05 Jun 2020

Junior Endurance Coach Geraldine Bush has been keeping her athletes busy. Here's an update on activity from Gerry.

''I sent all my athletes the link from England Athletics for the free ‘athletics 365 App’ which is a great resource for juniors to keep them busy throughout this current situation. Athletes are reminded that this is a free resource until September 2020.

I have also been busy making training videos on youtube for athletics training during lockdown, the channel is called 'School athletics coaching 11-18 years', some athletes may find these helpful to practice in their gardens.

The junior endurance groups have been training over the lockdown and we have had a competition for a virtual 1km run, 30 athletes took part and we also had 7 parents competing as well. The young athletes have used a running App for the first time to map and record their runs, which has proved very popular and has motivated them to chase their PB's, week on week they have sent me their results via a WhatApp chat group I set up to keep in touch with everyone. I have now set them another challenge which is in progress and that is to extent their run to 1.2k, they have a few weeks to practice and record their fastest time.
Also during lockdown, Beth Trow and Jack Kinrade took part in the British Milers Club virtual 1km Time Trail challenge, Beth finished 4th in her age group and Jack finished 12th in his. There is a new virtual challenge posted on the British Milers Club web site for a 3km Time Trail run and more juniors are going to enter this.

The challenge is open to all so if there are any other athletes wanting to have a go either for my challenges or to enter the BMC’s challenge they will have to enter themselves. http://www.britishmilersclub.com
